More January stuff......

Well it's a good thing Lorelei has taken a few pictures, otherwise I would have none to post. I have been shooting basketball and that's about it. So here are a few pictures from Lorelei!

All us boys playing Pinochle.

Below: Cody loads up the wagon with firewood to haul up to the campsite. We bring the large rounds of wood to this area for splitting and then we sort and store the wood in several locations depending on the usefulness of the wood. The good stuff (oak, madrone, maple) gets stacked and sold or used in the outdoor kitchen for cooking. The "crap" wood goes up to the knoll for campfires.

Below: An Old Growth stump on our property is a reminder of the very large forest that once stood here. These giant trees were cut in the mid 1950's.

Queenie and Cody out on a walk.

Below: The remnants of the rotted out maple tree that caused Jon and I so much trouble a couple of weeks earlier.

Below: Lots of water running through the property this time of year. This is the culvert that goes underneath the road that leads up to the knoll and the campsite.

This will be a busy week for basketball. Jon has three games! Lorelei's long term sub job has come to an end but she picked up another one that has her working part time this week. Cody is practicing hard at chess this week and Saturday is the regional tournament!

Lorelei has been very sick with a cold but I think she is over the worst of it.

That's about it for now,

January stuff.....

Just a quick update. Hopefully will have more pictures later in the month.

We made it through my birthday!! Lorelei made me all my favorite things that I don't normally eat throughout the year. Homemade biscuits and gravy for breakfast, steak, shrimp and fried okra for dinner and then followed up a few days later with homemade peanut butter cookies! Very good stuff.

Adam is doing well. I think he starts back with classes next week.

Jon is working hard as usual with school, church and basketball.

Cody is working hard in school.

Around the place I am trying to clear out some areas that are overgrown with scrub trees and poison oak. Our big tarp up at the campsite caved in under the weight of the snow we had a couple of weeks ago. The tarp needed to be replaced anyway. So we will need a new one for spring camping.
The usual other things around the house trying to keep everything working and all the vehicles running keeps me plenty busy.

Lorelei will finish up next week on her long term sub job so maybe she will be able to take a few days off between assignments over the next few months.

Take care all,
Glynn Jr.

Happy 2010!

Well first I promised some Christmas pictures so here goes....

Lorelei....

On Monday the 28th and Tuesday the 29th Lorelei took care of the two kids that she babysat several years ago. It was fun seeing Maggie and Eden again. I took off work most of that week so I got to spend Tuesday with them too.
When I awoke Tuesday morning the temp was in the low 20's. A quick check of the weather report said that rain was moving in and the snow level would be at 4,000 feet. Being that we are only at 750 ft elevation....no problem right? So about 10:00 the kids wanted to go outside, so we bundled everybody up and went up to the campsite. The temperature was NOT warming up and sure enough, no sooner was the campfire going than it started to snow! How in the heck could they miss the weather forecast by this much.? Roads and freeways in Portland were shut down, cars were stuck on the road coming up and down our little mountain road. Oh well we stayed outside until everyone was thoroughly wet and cold.

Below Eden holds a warm cup of hot chocolate while Maggie decides if she likes the snow.

Eden and Cody having some fun on the sled .

All of the pictures from December can be found HERE

The day after the snow storm I got myself into a pickle (I know....what a surprise)...see there was this maple tree that was angled towards the power lines near the top of the property. So I decide... (sometimes my reasoning behind my decisions is questionable) that it needs to be cut down. So the big worry is getting the tree to fall away from the power lines. So I start cutting and putting chains and cables to pull the tree the way I want and I begin to get nervous. So I go back to the house to get Jon and the truck. We hook up the truck so I can pull while Jon finishes cutting the tree. Well to make a very long story short, I managed to get the truck stuck and I pinned my brand new Carhart jacket (the one Lorelei got me for Christmas) under the bumper of the truck!
We got the truck jacked up and freed my new jacket. Then we managed to get the truck out of the mud. Finally it looked like the tree was going to fall the right way so we put a come-along on it and winched it the rest of the way over. No problem.......of course now we had muddy chains and cables, the truck was a mess and oh yeah....my new jacket. Luckily Lorelei was in town so I put my jacket in the washing machine and it came out great!

New years was uneventful, nice and quiet. Adam came home on Saturday and he heads back to Portland tomorrow.

That's about all for now!
