June is almost over......

Well another month has flown by. School is out! Cody had is 16th birthday and will be a Junior in HS next year. Jon graduated from Seattle Pacific. It's been a busy month that hasn't left much time for fishing but there's plenty of summer left for that.

Thursday June 12th we headed north to Seattle for Jon's graduation. We checked into the Silver Cloud Inn on Lake Union and settled in.
Cody of course brought a book or two.
I brought a book too but I'm thinking a nap would be good.

There were two ceremonies scheduled for Friday and then the graduation would be on Saturday.
Getting around Seattle is a pain in the behind! It was a joy to be with family and friends but I really can't imagine dealing with traffic and parking conditions on a daily basis as so many choose to do in this very crowded metropolis.
Friday morning was the Ivy Cutting Ceremony
Corina joined us for a group shot.
Jon took us to one of his favorite local restaurants, where the portions are large and the owners make you feel like family.

The baccalaureate service was Friday evening and took place in the gymnasium which was located just across the street from where the shooting had taken place just 8 days before. We walked by the memorial as we thought about our precious son and how he was in the hall, 30 minutes before the shooter walked in. We thought about how Jon is normally hanging out in that same hall on Thursdays but he didn't have a job that day so he had headed over to Corina's place.
The service was awesome, with wonderful speeches and great singing by the very talented Gospel Choir which Corina is a part of.

Saturday morning we had some time to see the sights. My dad and Franci had flown in from southern CA. We met up at the hotel for breakfast, then headed towards the Space Needle.
 Jon, Lorelei and Cody.
I thought about posing like everyone else....ok....no I didn't....
There were several attractions in the area and we were having trouble deciding which one to see (we only had about an hour and a half). We decided on the Chihuly Garden and Glass. This place was awesome!

Then it was off to the graduation ceremony at the Key Arena. We stopped by the hotel room to change and then on to find a parking space near the venue.
Oh look, there's one! And only $12!
The graduating class was about 650 students. Jon received cum laude honors with  degrees in Exercise Science and Health and Fitness Education.

Along with my dad and Franci, Adam and Pam drove up from Vancouver and also Jon's friends Caleb and Morgan joined us.

L to R, Cody, Lorelei, Franci (hiding in the back), Glynn Sr., Jon, Adam, Pam, Caleb and Morgan
A few more pictures and then on to dinner!

Dinner was at the Hi-Life. Good food and good company.

We ended the evening back at the hotel, sitting around and solving many of the world's problems. There were only a few left to solve when we had to go our separate ways around 9:00 p.m. Dad and Franci's plane was leaving early Sunday morning. Jon, Caleb and Morgan had a day planned of hanging out in Seattle. Adam and Pam decided to drive home to Vancouver! What a great time of celebration we had.

On Sunday, Lorelei and I went for a walk around Lake Union, seeing the sights before we had to head south for home.

The next Friday was Cody's 16th birthday! He wanted money and to spend a little time down at his forge.

The reason the video is so short, when Cody hits the molten hot iron while wearing hearing and eye protection, the videographer (Lorelei) wasn't, ouch!

 That's about all for now!

News for May 2014

Wow, another month has slipped by me! May was a good month. It started off with Cody and Adam playing at the world famous Amity May Day Celebration! Cody also sang in a quartet singing the National Anthem.

If you didn't get a chance to see the video of Cody and Adam on Face Book you can click

HERE

For Mother's Day Cody and I worked on the back walkway and decks, sprucing things up a bit and planting a few flowers for Lorelei.

For Memorial Day weekend we headed up to one of the Fishing Club properties for some fishing and relaxing. Jon and Corina came down from Seattle and our friends the Hake's joined us.
Lorelei with a nice rainbow.
This one wasn't quite ready to pose for a picture.
Jon and Corina trying their luck.

The Hake's!

On Sunday afternoon it started raining so the kids headed for the shelter of the trailer for a game of Settler's.

Here's a short video of the Upper Lake.

Here we are on a hike, lost somewhere in the deep wilderness of the coast range. I found an old machete that I used along with my survival skills to bring us home safely.

We ended the month by attending the awards presentation for Amity High School, where Cody came away with a few!

That's about all for now. Keep the cards and letters coming!

Fishing, a tree and Cody

My brother moved from Arizona this month to Oregon! He wasn't quite ready for all the rain we get in our part of the state, so he dropped his stuff off in Medford and drove on up north to visit. It didn't take long for us to find some water and as luck would have it, we had fishing poles along too. He will only be about 3-1/2 hours away now, so hopefully we'll get more fishing time together!

This last Thursday the 24th I arose at 4:10 (my normal time for work) and staggered out to the kitchen to start the coffee. Queenie wanted out, so I walked over and opened the front door. Queenie just sat and stared out the door but wouldn't go out. I start to scold her and then I look up and something didn't look right? It took a few seconds for my brain to comprehend what I was seeing! After realizing what had happened, I knew there was a little clean-up to be done and we weren't going anywhere until the tree was removed from across the driveway!

Lorelei and I worked all day. She needed to go down the hill to pick up Cody from school at 4:30. I didn't want to cut the tree at the driveway until the top (that was on my car) had been removed, for fear the tree would "tip" downward. Finally about 3:00 in the afternoon I started on the main trunk attempting to clear a path.

We worked dodging rain showers. Lorelei was a trooper.
Lorelei gives some scale to the root ball!

The car didn't fair too well! The appraiser came out and it's a total loss. Hmm.....now I'm without a car.

I had Cody help me with the tape measure. 85ft from the base of the trunk to the house and there was at least 5ft more that hit the top of the house and tore part of the rain gutter loose.
Cody and I spent the better part of yesterday continuing the cleanup and it's still not done!

Friday night was Cody's Piano Recital! A great show put on by all the students. Cody played 3 pcs. The last one, his own alteration of a song from Lord of the Rings. If you'll notice, Cody didn't use sheet music but memorized everything. He's been playing piano a little less than two years.

Next weekend will be a busy one. Cody and Adam will be playing in the annual May Day celebration at the high school. Cody will also be singing the national anthem in a quartet! Then on Sunday Cody has been asked to be the auctioneer at a local church in town for their fundraiser.

That's about all for now!

Lots of rain, a new to us boat and fishing!

We've been short of rain this season but I think we've made up for it this last week. It's been pouring! In Feb. we upgraded (I hope) to a bigger boat. It's a 2002 model with a windshield and a full top (which Lorelei really likes). Adam and I have been working on it every weekend trying to get it up to safety standards so we can take it out in the ocean. We've moved the seats around and added storage. We are now adding a battery and an additional bilge pump. We put in a VHF radio. We've had it out twice now, working out the bugs. So far I think we're going to like it!

Lorelei on the maiden voyage trying out the Captains Seat. She found out it's not adjustable so we threw a couple of cushions behind her. Note to self, replace Captains Seat.
The boys with Adam at the helm.

Adam driving the new ride onto the trailer.

Feb. was Member Appreciation month at the Air Museum. We got to tour Air Force II

I told Lorelei to call ahead and move out our reservations at the country club.

Inside Lorelei took up with some shady characters. It's a good thing I had my light saber.

Jon was home for only 4 days on Spring Break. We headed for the coast one of the days. We had great weather and we found some fish! Lorelei with a keeper greenling.
Adam with a nice rock bass.
Jon with a couple of nice ones!

On Monday before Jon left for Seattle we went over to our farmer friend's pond. The bass were biting!

It's been a busy Spring thus far. Lorelei is working a one on one with a sweet 5th grader that suddenly last year started having seizures. The doctors don't know why but suddenly it's like you just flip the switch to her body off and she goes down. It's stressful and Lorelei follows her around all day trying to keep her from hurting herself when her body suddenly shuts off.
Adam and Pam are in Vancouver WA and working their E-bay business. Jon is getting ready to finish up at Seattle Pacific! Cody is doing great. He's in a quartet that will be singing at the annual May Day show put on by Amity HS. He has a piano recital next month also!
I'm way behind in my yard work but oh well.
That's about all for now!
