Doing some more catch up.....

Thing are going well around the Pennington Homestead. Jon has been a great help this summer. He has dug out for two retaining walls, painted the trim on the house and carport. Painted the chicken coop and has generally been keeping the yard mowed and the landscaping in shape. In his spare time he works about 30 hrs a week at the local store and has also cut and split two cords of wood to sell!

The garden is doing well (for the most part). We had a good crop of strawberries. The blueberries have been ripening and we have had a couple of bowlfuls! We have been eating cucumbers and lettuce. The beans produced a handful for salad yesterday with much more to come. The carrots and tomatoes are coming along.

A couple of weeks ago we made it over to the coast for a day of fun. We launched the boat on a very low tide and had to walk it part way out into the bay. Lorelei and Cody set up camp while Adam and I were preparing to set out our crab traps when another boat came motoring up. They had set their traps out in the ocean and had just gone out and picked them up. They had over 100 huge crab in the bottom of their boat! There were only three guys in the boat and you are allowed to keep 12 crab each. They said "hey do you want some crab, we are getting ready to toss a bunch back" We took as many as we thought we could keep alive in our ice chest. Along with a few we caught ourselves we wound up with enough to feed four families an awesome crab dinner!

Been a long absence......trying to catch up...

Hell everyone. I'm sorry for the lapse in posting. Well to catch up a little. Jon is home for the summer and we have been enjoying his company. He is working at the local store and also helping us around the place, so he is staying quite busy! We squeezed in a day trip up to Detroit lake a few weeks ago.

Below, the kids cooking dinner on the campfire.

Our great friends from New Mexico stopped by for a visit a couple of weeks ago.
From L to R Cody, Lorelei, Marilyn, Trey and Jon

Cody graduated from the 8th grade. He scooped up several awards for Math and Social Studies. He also received the Principals Award for outstanding student of the year! Cody finished Middle School with a 4.0. Way to go Cody.

Okay so there has been this tree that I keep saying needs to be cut down because it's in the way of another tree that I need to cut down that's shading the orchard. Well......so this tree in question is kinda leaning toward the orchard and I'm a bit nervous about cutting it, so I put it off.
So Lorelei and the boys have been telling me for the last 6 months that the tree is leaning more and more. I say.......naw it's fine.....while in my mind I'm trying to figure out how to cut it down without wiping out several trees in the orchard.
So.....a week or so ago I'm sitting at the computer early in the morning and Lorelei comes running out of the bedroom saying "the tree fell, the tree fell".
It fell just about perfectly, missing the horseshoe pit and clipping part of one of our apple trees, just as I had planned it!

This last week Lorelei and I headed to the southern Oregon Coast for a few days.We had a fun trip and drove about 650 miles total. We spent time at several ports and walked around, talked to some locals and ate LOTS of food!
In our back roads exploration we came across a street named after her mom so we had to get a picture.

This is one of Lorelei's pictures, looking south.

Spring Break 2012.....

Jon came home from SPU March 16th for Spring Break! The local store in town was glad to have him back also and immediately put him to work. On Thursday the 22nd we awoke to 30 degree temperatures and 4" of snow. Jon had the day off from work and the Amity schools were closed because of the snow, (Our Spring Break is a week later than Washington) so Jon and Cody decided to build an igloo.

Thursday night Adam came home to spend a little time with the family. We loaded up on Friday morning and headed to the lake. With all the rain and snow the water was very murky and the fish did not cooperate, but we had a great day on the water with some great company!

I'm in a bind and way behind.....

I'm sorry for the lack of posting as of late. Seems like life is coming at us fast right now. It's ok....I'm not complaining....ok.....I'm not complaining a lot. To catch up first about Cody, he had an echocardiagram (sp?) a few weeks ago and all is well with him. He has a little leakage around one of his valves but the doctor said that was not unusual. They said the leakage is what they can hear as a "murmur" and that if he wasn't so skinny they wouldn't be able to even hear it. So we found a test for skininess!

Cody is doing awesome in school. His class had a paper they studied a few weeks ago and for extra credit they were instructed to come up with as many words as they could using the letters from the title of the paper (I forget what it was called). On the last day before he was to turn in the extra credit we had to make him go to bed as he passed the 750 word mark. Before school the next day he reached his goal of 777 words! Needless to say he had the most of anyone in his class.

This last Saturday we went over to our favorite pond. Cody and I, took fishing gear and Lorelei took care of the photography!

Lorelei has another long term sub job that will last through the end of the year. It's in our home town of Amity so she gets Friday's off! I hope we get a chance to get in some fishing this spring.

Adam and Jon are doing well. We are looking forward to Jon being home for spring break in a couple of weeks.

Sorry for the short post. I have been so busy with work lately it's hard to find time.
