October's almost gone.......

Wow! Guess I better get a post in for October. It’s been busy, busy for us. Home projects, work and some wonderful family visits have taken care of the month. Oh and of course a little fishing and crabbing.

So Lorelei and I were talking about changing the doors, trim and hardware in the house. I say to her, fine but you're going to help. She says "sure". So off we go on this project. The end of September we were at Lowe's getting the final wall blocks for an outside project. Lorelei heads for the door aisle while I'm searching for something. When I finally catch up with her, she's all excited because the doors are on sale. I say, "great hun , I did bring the trailer but it's going to be loaded with blocks and pavers for the new front porch, how am I going to load ( 7) doors on there also??" Well, we made it home with everything and the fun began.

Several  times so far Lorelei has said “I didn't realize there were so many steps to this, I thought you just brought the new door home and put it in”

Last week my brother Craig was here and we got in some fishing and crabbing!

My dad was also here this last week and we had a great time. We went to the air museum and we visited, Cody played us some music and we visited some more! We had an awesome game of scrabble that went back and forth until the final play, when my dad played out and I was stuck with a bunch of points, Dad and Cody tied for the win.

End of another summer.....

Saturday of Labor Day Weekend we headed to the coast. Jon had to work so Lorelei, Cody, Adam, Pam and I headed over. We brought back some yummy crab! Another great day on the water.

 Adam trying for a salmon.
 Adam measures another keeper.

On Sept. 5th Jon loaded up his car to head back north to school. He is a PA (Peer Advisor) this year so he needed to be back early for training and to get everything ready for his charges to arrive.

We headed up on Sunday Sept. 9th with the larger items Jon couldn't fit in his car. He has a room to himself this year so he can have more furniture. He built a desk for himself over the summer and we brought him a chair and his refrigerator.

He's got a great view of the campus from his window.

It was nice getting a tour of the grounds and building without anyone around.

So another year begins.

This year Cody started his freshman year of high school! (I'm getting too old for this) Cody has been busy with his music. He is taking piano lessons. He has a keyboard in his room and he practices and makes up songs of his own. He also plays guitar and has recently purchased a violin.Go Cody!

Vacation 2012

Vacation 2012 took us to Lakeside Oregon. We rented a house on North Tenmile Lake for a week!

There is no road access to the house, so everything comes in and out by boat. That means a lot of gear piled in our little boat.

Tenmile is a beautiful lake.

We boated, fished, explored and did some more boating!

 Lorelei outfished me again!

We took a side trip to a little museum in Reedsport where they had some amazing murals!

On the way home a stop along the coast.

Another great vacation!

Doing some more catch up.....

Thing are going well around the Pennington Homestead. Jon has been a great help this summer. He has dug out for two retaining walls, painted the trim on the house and carport. Painted the chicken coop and has generally been keeping the yard mowed and the landscaping in shape. In his spare time he works about 30 hrs a week at the local store and has also cut and split two cords of wood to sell!

The garden is doing well (for the most part). We had a good crop of strawberries. The blueberries have been ripening and we have had a couple of bowlfuls! We have been eating cucumbers and lettuce. The beans produced a handful for salad yesterday with much more to come. The carrots and tomatoes are coming along.

A couple of weeks ago we made it over to the coast for a day of fun. We launched the boat on a very low tide and had to walk it part way out into the bay. Lorelei and Cody set up camp while Adam and I were preparing to set out our crab traps when another boat came motoring up. They had set their traps out in the ocean and had just gone out and picked them up. They had over 100 huge crab in the bottom of their boat! There were only three guys in the boat and you are allowed to keep 12 crab each. They said "hey do you want some crab, we are getting ready to toss a bunch back" We took as many as we thought we could keep alive in our ice chest. Along with a few we caught ourselves we wound up with enough to feed four families an awesome crab dinner!
