September already??

Well it's been a few weeks since an update. We had the company picnic, a Baptism, a visit from Lorelei's sister and of course a little fishing in the mix to end the summer break.

The Columbia Helicopter's company picnic, Cody and I were in the horseshoe tournament on separate teams. Cody's team was fourth and mine was second place.
Lorelei and Cody enjoying some shade at the picnic.

Cody has been a Christian for many years but has never been Baptized. So a couple of weeks ago he followed Jesus' teachings and took the plunge in our Church's beautiful Baptismal Font.
Checking the water temperature.
Cody professing his faith and desire to be Baptized.

Lorelei's sister Penny flew up for a visit. She lives in Southern California. We went out to one of the Fishing Club's properties.
Adam and I trying our luck in the canoe.
Cody, Lorelei and Penny trying a different kind of luck.
Touring our property, Penny, Jon, Corina, me and Cody.

Everyone pitched in to make a wonderful turkey dinner complete with stuffing and all the fixins....yum!
I had the VERY important job of carving the turkey.
September also means apples and salmon fishing! We went out on Friday. Jon and Lorelei both hooked a fish but we lost them both (the fish, not Lorelei and Jon).

That's about all for now.

Camping and more camping.....

The new to us "Long Long Trailer" has been fun. Although the refrigerator repair man still has some work to do on the fridge most everything else is coming together. We have made little adjustments as to where things are stored and we still need a "mattress topper" to help make the bed comfortable. Trouble is we like sleeping on the narrow bed and the mattress is an odd size that not even the rv supply stores have a topper that fits it!

Jon was home last week so we decided to make an overnight trip back up to Rainier Lakes. Corina and Cody joined us for a fun trip. Again we were the only ones on a 1,000 acre property. We saw a coyote on the drive in to the campsite. A family of bald eagles kept us entertained as well as a great blue heron........oh yeah there were a few fish too!
There are miles of hiking trails around the 5 lakes.

 Cody making a spear?
Me and Jon making major dinner decisions.
Jon and Corina try their luck in the canoe.
Me making some major fishing decisions....

Jon and Corina came up with a way to cook the kabobs over the campfire.
And of course there were a few fish around.....

Hon....I don't think you should try and lift that fish????

Another great time with family.
That's about all for now,

Trial run with the travel trailer.....

Last Friday we headed out to one of the Fishing Club's properties near Vernonia Oregon. It was just Lorelei and I and we were shaking the bugs out of the new to us travel trailer.
Hooked up and ready to travel.

Total drive time was about 2 hours. Vernonia is a sleepy logging town nestled in the coast range. We passed the logging road once and had to turn around. We found the locked gate and proceeded up the gravel road. Little did I know that Lorelei was getting nervous as she realized how isolated we were going to be camping.
After a mile on the bumpy road we neared our destination. This property has nearly a thousand acres and five lakes and we were the only ones there!
We set up camp in a nice spot. We heard a very interesting SCREECHING sound in the middle of the night?
Then it was time to fish. I was trying out fly fishing for the first time and to my surprise I caught two trout!
The trailer worked great (except the fridge was not cold running on propane).
 Now this is roughing it.
Saturday morning we got out and walked around all of the lakes. There is some abandoned logging equipment along the road, so Lorelei hopped in for a test drive.
Beautiful scenery. Lorelei took these next three.

Not to be out-done in the fish catching department, Lorelei got serious and pulled in this nice rainbow!
We had a great trip. A few bugs to work out with the trailer and we hope to be on the road again soon!

Vacation, San Juan Islands!!

June 29th we headed out for a week at our favorite vacation spot. We loaded up and headed out. Corina rode with Lorelei, Cody and I. Adam and Pam drove their car from Portland up to Seattle and picked up Jon and we all met at the ferry landing in Anacortes Washington.

Leaving home.....
We hadn't seen Jon for a couple of months so big hugs were in order all around.
Once at the ferry landing you begin to switch to "Island Mode" which means if you're in a hurry to do anything, your in the wrong place!
We all went down on the beach and awaited our ferry.

Hey is that our ferry? Stop throwing rocks and let's go.....oh sorry, I forgot, Island Mode.....
 Boarding.....
It takes about an hour to get to Orcas Island but the time goes by fast.....

The house we rented was awesome! Plenty of space, close to a launch ramp and a public dock.

On Monday we headed into East Sound which is the only real town on the island.
Jon, modeling the latest in island style.

If you're new to the blog and don't know everyone, from LtoR Cody, Pam, Adam, Me, Jon and Corina. Lorelei is the photographer.

Monday we took the ferry over to San Juan island and visited Friday Harbor!
Waiting Pam and Adam so we can go eat.

Popeye the famous one eyed Friday Harbor resident mascot.

Tues., Wed., Thurs. were fishing days!

You can't keep any "rock fish" in the area we were fishing. Not sure why because we were catching them almost every cast. So Lorelei brought up this 5 or 6 pound rock fish that had been brought up too fast and his stomach hadn't decompressed. We had to throw him back but he was just floating on top of the water. We were all feeling bad when out of the corner of our eye, this bald eagle swoops down and not 10 yards from the boat scooped up the fish and carried it off to it's nest. About 20 minutes later it returned and perched in the tree above us awaiting his next free meal.
Lorelei snapped off a shot of him.
Corina with a nice one!

Lorelei with one of the several sharks (dogfish) she caught.

On Wednesday after fishing and hiking at Moran State Park we stopped at Rosario Resort for dinner.

On Friday we drove (the kids rode their bikes) over to Deer Harbor and spent time walking the docks.

We had absolutely perfect weather. It was so nice having everyone together.
Below, the Ultimate, Ultimate Frisbee team.

No one wanted to leave, but.....all good things come to an end. We are looking forward to our next trip!

That's about all for now.
